Crystal Palace beat Liverpool on penalties — reaction from Wembley
Crystal Palace have won the Community Shield for the first time after beating Liverpool 3-2 on penalties.
Last season’s FA Cup winners twice came from behind in 90 minutes and then won it in the shootout. Dean Henderson was the hero again, saving from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott after Mo Salah blazed his effort over.
Alisson kept out Eberechi Eze’s spot kick and Borna Sosa hit the crossbar, but Oliver Glasner’s men prevailed.
Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong scored debut goals for Liverpool in normal time but Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr got the equalisers to send the match to penalties.

Reigning champions Liverpool get the season started with the visit of Bournemouth to Anfield on Friday. Crystal Palace have to wait a couple more days for their first league game, a London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
