Millie Bobby Brown Stranger Things actor Millie Bobby Brown adopts ‘sweet baby girl’

Netflix star and model husband Jake Bongiovi, 21 and 23, say they are ‘beyond excited’ to become parents.

The Stranger Things actor Millie Bobby Brown and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, have announced they have become parents after adopting a “sweet baby girl”.

Brown, 21, and Bongiovi, 23, said in a statement on social media that they were “beyond excited” to enter the next chapter of their lives.

Alongside a sketch of a tree, the couple wrote on Instagram on Thursday: “This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.”

The post, which was accompanied by the Beatles song Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, continued: “And then there were 3.”

Brown, best known for her role as Eleven in the Netflix drama Stranger Things, and Bongiovi, a model who is the son of the musician Jon Bon Jovi, married last October after their engagement in 2023.

Alongside photos from their wedding last year, Bongiovi wrote in a post at the time: “Forever and always, your husband.”

Brown has previously spoken about wanting to become a parent, adding that she wanted a large family with her husband. She mentioned the possibility of adopting.

Speaking in March on the SmartLess podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, the actor said: “Jake knows how important it is to me [to have a child].”

Brown, who recently appeared alongside Chris Pratt in sci-fi film The Electric State, added: “Of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it’s so important to start a family, for me, personally.”

In 2023, the publication of Brown’s debut novel reignited a debate over ghostwritten celebrity books.

Nineteen Steps, inspired by her grandmother’s experience of the 1943 Bethnal Green tube disaster, was ghostwritten by author Kathleen McGurl yet the cover of the book featured only Brown’s name.

In response to a subsequently deleted tweet by Waterstones promoting the book, many X users had criticised the star.

Brown had posted an image on Instagram of herself holding the book standing next to McGurl, with the caption: “I couldn’t have done this without you!”

Zoella (the media personality Zoë Sugg), Katie Price and Naomi Campbell are among celebrities who have also used ghostwriters for their

Reported active shooter at Villanova University a "cruel hoax," president says

A report of an active shooter at Villanova University turned out to be a "cruel hoax," university President Rev. Peter Donohue said in a letter to the school community. There was no active shooter and no one was injured, Donohue said.

The university sent out a report of an active shooter on campus at Law School Scarpa Hall around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, advising people to move to a secure location and to lock and barricade doors.

Police from across Delaware County, Pennsylvania State Police and federal law enforcement responded to a possible active shooter situation at the university. At 5:47 p.m., Radnor police said there were no reported victims.

Donohue said in a letter that during the university's orientation Mass there were reports of a possible shooter at the law school.

"Amid my thanks, I would like to apologize to our first-year students

and their families. This is not the introduction to Villanova that I had hoped for you. And while I cannot do anything to relieve the unrest that you are feeling right now, I can offer a prayer," Donohue said in the letter. "As generations of Villanovan know, this prayer is how I close Orientation Mass each year. Since we were interrupted today, I would like to offer it now. Whomever you are with, I ask that you reach out to them and repeat after me."

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said law enforcement locked down the campus during the investigation.

Thursday was "opening day" at Villanova, which included a family resource fair and info sessions, orientation, opening Mass and a family picnic, according to a schedule posted on the university's website.

Multiple sources told CBS News Philadelphia people ran for cover, getting into university buildings and huddling under desks during the panic amid the reported active shooter.

Video posted on social media showed people running from an event on campus. The video comes from outside one of the residence halls. In the video, you can see several white chairs overturned as dozens of people quickly get to safety.

UFC UFC 319 results: Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev fight card highlights

Khamzat Chimaev dethroned UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis Saturday night, winning by unanimous decision in dominant fashion at the United Center in Chicago.

Chimaev, the 31-year-old Russian, controlled the fight with more than 10 takedowns and spent most of the bout on top of Du Plessis. On top while delivering knees and punches.

But there were a few tense moments in the fifth round, when Chimaev had to fight off a guillotine attempt – perhaps the only moment of danger he faced.

The judges scored it 50-44, 50-44, 50-44 for Chimaev, who improved to 15-0.

The crowd booed after a fight filled with wrestling and short on fisticuffs and kicks. Chimaev seemed unconcerned after the victory.

“Happy, happy always,’’ Chimaev said about how he felt after the fight. “Get my money. Dana (White), save my money, brother.’’

Chimaev also praised Du Plessis.

“That guy is strong to the finish,’’ he said. “… This guy had great heart.’’

Du Plessis lauded Chimaev.

“The man has incredible control on the top,’’ he said. “He’s just like a blanket. I mean, it wasn’t a matter of strength. He wasn’t that physical. It’s almost as if he knew what your next (move) was going to be.’’

Du Plessis, the 31-year-old from South Africa, failed to defend his UFC middleweight title for the first time in three tries as his record dropped to 23-3.

“At the end, I went for it, had the back,’’ Du Plessis said. “I could almost taste that victory. But big ups to (Chimaev), he beat me fair and square tonight. He was the better man.’’

Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev: Round-by-round analysis

Dricus Du Plessis (DDP) looks to defend his middleweight title for the third time in a row and Chimaev looks to dethrone the champion, as the action begins. Chimaev initiates a chest bump during introductions? Wow!

Round 1

It’s Chimaev with a quick takedown! The chants go up: “Khamzat! Khamzat!’’ Chimaev delivering blows to the head with his left fist. Just pounding away and DDP looks to have no chance to move. But these punches lack force and he can’t free his right arm. The crowd boos. Chimaev still working with left hand. Now he frees up the right hand and scores as DDP squirms. Chimaev remains in total control but inflicting no serious damage. Chimaev throws some short rights and he remains in total control. DDP reverses! But Chimaev quickly back on top. Chimaev 10, DDP 9

Round 2

DDP smiles and accepts a neck hug from his trainer before Round 2 begins. DDP opens with a left kick and then takes a left kick. Chimaev with another quick takedown! Chimaev drilling DDP’s backside with his knee. Chimaev in control again from atop DDP’s back. They’re against the fence and Chimaev drives knees into DDP’s backside. The chants go up again: “Khamzat! Khamzat!’’ They love the Russian. Chimaev goes for the choke but DDP fights it off. Chimaev punches with the left hand and DDP looks immobile while taking knees to his backside. Using the knee and arms to keep DDP wrapped up. That backside is gonna be sore! The fighters slap hands as the round ends and they separate. Chimaev 20, DDP 18

Round 3

DDP unleashes a left kick and Chimaev scores a takedown less than 15 seconds into the round. DDP slaps his right hand against Chimaev’s head but now he’s too busy trying to survive. Chimaev is on top and in control. DDP’s knees look bruised and a little bloodied. Chimaev looking like a boa constrictor again. Chimaev pounding hard with his left fist after tying up DDP’s arms. DDP’s face bleeding now. DDP is almost immobilized and Chimaev pounds his elbow on DDP’s head and the punches are looking more and more vicious. A crucifix move is how Chimaev has immobilized DDP. Now Chimaev is looking for the choke, and DDP fights it off – but takes more head shots. DDP’s mouth and face are a mess. Chimaev 30, DDP 27

Round 4

Chimaev misses a takedown but simply goes for another – and down goes DDP. Twenty seconds elapse, and DDP is in the clutches of Chimaev again. He’s 7-for-8 on takedown attempts. This has been a mauling. DDP on his feet, and down he goes again. More blood. Chimaev tossing DDP around like a ragdoll. Well, a rather large ragdoll. Chimaev works DDP into the crucifix again. And again he’s on top and in control and trying to free his hands for punches. The referee separates the fighters. Yet another takedown. But DDP fends off the choke attempts. Chimaev 40, DDP 36

Round 5

DDP comes out with a bloody mouth and smile. DDP fires a couple of kicks and lands a right hand. But Chimaev scores another takedown 30 seconds into the round. DDP looks helpless. Does DDP have enough energy to fight back? DDP on his feet and Chimaev forces him to the mat almost as quickly. DDP reverses with just over two minutes left. Attempts a guillotine but Chimaev shakes loose and reverses. With 1:25 left, the ref stands them up. DDP lands a hard right and finds himself on top of Chimaev with 30 second left. DDP is on top but has no place to go as the round ends: Chimaev 49, DDP 46

‘No deal’ at Trump-Putin meeting: Key takeaways from Alaska summit

The US leader cut a subdued figure after the meeting, which failed to achieve its primary goal – an end to Russia’s war.

In the lead-up to his much-touted Friday summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, United States President Donald Trump expressed confidence in his ability to make concrete progress towards securing a ceasefire in Ukraine at the meeting.

Putin received the red carpet treatment as he was met with a lengthy handshake by Trump as he deplaned at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson military facility in the Alaskan city of Anchorage.

The warm greeting set a congenial tone for what were always going to be tough negotiations. But there was a more subdued atmosphere a few hours later as Trump and Putin departed on their respective planes – with no clear breakthrough on the war in Ukraine.

Here are some key takeaways from their meeting:

‘No deal until there’s a deal’

While the meeting was anticipated to take about seven hours, it wrapped up in less than three. Trump and Putin addressed a gathering of journalists after the talks with relatively brief pre-prepared statements. Neither leader took any questions.

Putin said his country is committed to ending the war, but the conflict’s “primary causes” must be eliminated for an agreement to be long-lasting.

Putin also warned Ukraine and the European Union against throwing a “wrench in the works” and cautioned against attempts to use “backroom dealings to conduct provocations to torpedo the nascent progress”.

A relatively subdued Trump praised the “extremely productive meeting”, in which he said “many points were agreed to”. He said there is a “very good chance of getting there” – referring to a ceasefire – but conceded that there remain sticking points with Moscow, including at least one “significant” one.

He cautioned that it’s “ultimately up to them” – referring to Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” he said.

And there was none by the time Trump and Putin left Alaska.

A PR coup for Putin

The Russian leader has become an increasingly maligned and isolated figure in the West since waging war on Ukraine in February 2022.

But on Friday, that ended, with a red carpet welcome, a flypast by US fighter jets and warm applause from Trump.

Putin himself seemed pleased, grinning out the window as he drove off the tarmac with Trump in the presidential Cadillac limousine known as “The Beast”.

“For three years they [Western media] have been talking about Russia’s isolation, and today they saw the red carpet that greeted the Russian president in the United States,” Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gloated after the summit, on Telegram.

Talking business

Before the meeting, it was widely anticipated that Putin would attempt to dilute peace talks with talk of bilateral trade and cooperation.

Trump had asserted that there would be no discussion of business with Putin until the pair had made substantive progress on bringing about a ceasefire in Ukraine.

This plan, however, seems to have been derailed somewhat, with the Russian president saying in his post-meeting statement that the pair discussed their collaboration in the areas of tech and space.

“It’s clear that US and Russian investment and business cooperation has tremendous potential. Russia and the US can offer each other so much. In trade, digital, high-tech and in space exploration, [and] we see that Arctic cooperation is also very possible,” he told reporters.

Russia has previously tried to pitch its vast reserves of rare earth minerals – critical for several cutting edge sectors – to the US to broker a breakthrough.

Next up: Another meeting – and pressure on Ukraine

As Trump thanked Putin for his time, he said he hoped they would meet again soon. Putin quickly responded by saying, in English with a laugh, “Next time, in Moscow”.

“I’ll get a little heat on that one, but I could see it possibly happening,” he said in response.

Trump has previously asserted that he hopes to host a trilateral meeting on ending the war in Ukraine very soon, this time attended by Ukraine’s Zelenskyy, too. In Alaska, the US leader said he would now call NATO officials and Zelenskyy to discuss the meeting.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean hannity after the meeting, Trump was asked how he rated the summit on a scale of 10. He described the meet as a “10 out of 10”.

“We got along great,” he said.

Then, he emphasised the importance of the Ukrainian leader agreeing to a deal.

“Now, it’s really up to President Zelenskyy to get it done. And I would also say the European nations, they have to get involved a little bit. But it’s up to President Zelenskyy,” he said, adding that he’ll attend the next meeting “if they’d like”.

“Make a deal,” he said, in a message apparently for Zelenskyy.
